I think he is a genius in his own rights....
The song you hear in the background right now (if it has loaded and played and you didn't switch off the sound!) is by Frank Zappa..
I was watching his interviews on YouTube in my free time along with the autobiography of him.. A classic rebel who couldn't find a place to FIT IN in society and had to create a niche for himself out of scratch.
He fought against the elder Bush back then in his music and also interviews.. (pity he's not here now! I was imagining the songs he'd make if he's still alive!!) He had songs about his views on society.. Vivid, Uncensored, Colourful...Three words i would use to describe his music. He was also in the heat of action when they wanted to introduce censorship of music contents in the US.
Anyway...
This is the video that i think touched abit of my senses most... it gives you an idea who he is too.. this is recorded near his demise i think .. when he started growing a full beard..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDYzuwG-gOESide-tracking; Science of Music is doing good especially since Kamie is enjoying it IT seems... She hasn't been late so far and thats good cos she aimed for puntuality this year. Hehehe.... Goooood gal...
There is this part about sound that was touched upon in the module that i truly believe... Sound or Music is more of perception rather than reality. Sounds are happening all around you yet you 'choose' to hear what to hear. Ada faham? At this point of time...somebody is writing on a piece of paper two tables away from me and his hand is rubbing lazily on the paper as he writes... if i didnt notice him, i might not be able to hear that sound unless it's too loud that it distracts. Human hearing spans vastly between 20Hz to 20kHz. Yet only sounds in certain ranges attract ur attention... this may be due to ..YES.. nurture and maybe even evolution. Sociology should be able to contribute to this (explanation). In some ways... sounds can trigger an emotional state of mind...
Composers who are skilled in their art use this knowledge to sculpt music that has potential to relay their intent. Musicians, with their skill, try to interpret the message and recreate the message as best to what the composer demands... Which is why, many musicians can play but not many can influence people's mood with their playing.
Have you encountered hearing songs that made you tear, or songs that uplift you...there are also songs that make you reach deep down into your emotional black-box and unearth skeletons of the past. I did...
And to think that music is simply sound that is skillfully created, mixed and organised. It's just air!! Such is the power of God's creation.
Zappa was a sound artist... one that uses sound to create art. One who does not stick to conventional methods and not one commercially driven. He was not really one that clamours for fame and till now, not many know him. As said by his son, Dweezil when accepting an award on his behalf, "to the 'hundreds' of fans of my father out there.."
Dweezil wasn't blind to the fact that his father's music was greatly unappreciated back and an now too. Hence, with whatever he had, the Zappas went out all the way to tour exposing the new age to his dad's music in the form of Zappa Plays Zappa... He admitted it took a long time for him to learn and retrace his dad's method of music and style of playing. Transcribing his dad's taped music reveals 'technology' that was experimented which was way beyond Zappa's time back then...
An ode to him. OK ok...done. Shall go back to reading up on my EG1108... ahahaha... towards my own dreams too. Im still proud and happy with myself that in this final sem, i stuck proud and hard to my pride and principle of only taking modules that i WANT and would be necessary for my goals in future...not for the grades... nice one arh zola. *pats
Wait...this just proves me that guys just keep on looking better as we age.. YESSSAH!!!
