The great Northern Rally...

A innocent drive up north alone, to Md Noor's place got me into a 3 1/2 hour adventure into a place not called home....

Confusion between Gelang Patah and Pasir Gudang..abbreviate them as GP and PG..and u see why...at the critical split point at Skudai got me to the decision that it is PG and boy was it long. Lat told me to look out for a Petronas Gas station that has an immediate U-turn point in front of it...so after nearly 45mins of driving up and not finding the particular gas station, my instinct told me something was wrong. I stopped by Mobli..opened my street directory and what i saw made me laugh out loud. It was supposed to be GP! Arrrrgh!!!!!! I decided to look for a u turn point..i got into Old Masai...sumhow having to U turn again and make my way to JB again..

At the opposite side however...there were road constructions going on...traffic was diverted. Imagine an expressway full of cars from 4 lanes, streamlined into 2 lanes and eventually to a single lane...i got stuck for more than half an hour! Utilising the dark smaller roads..i made my way to JB..got stuck at the jam to Singapore...eventually making my way to the right to U turn nack into Wong Ah Fook Rd...the place we normally go..head to Tun Abdul Razak.. made my way to Skudai..den to Skudai Kiri..den i saw the signboard for Mutiara Rini..where Lat stays..and made my way there.. (notice i remember distinctly the road names??)

The way was clear then...i was travelling close to 120 at times..averaging 100 mostly, waeving through the Malaysian roads and swerving to avoid reckless motorists and sudden brakes. I finally made it to GP and eventually to Mutiara Rini where there was a police check...they shone at my number plate and let me go. Most cars were told to stop by the sides for further checks.

At last..i saw the Petronas station Lat described. I made the U turn, entered the first left and made the left at the first junction...den..i got into the rd he said his house was on..NO house!! Arrrrgh!! Called him...and at last..they set out in a van to pick me up from that rd.

Alhamdulillah....i made it safe and sound. It was then near 12.30am...i left house at 9pm to a clear causeway..uninterrupted. Now, after Pasir Gudang...my driving skills i feel are up a notch. I am more confident of getting lost...and i am more confident of Malaysian traffic. But i really feel the Malaysian government has got to buck up especially on signage and lighting. Roads were very darn and there we no lines to mark the lanes. U couldnt see the sides of the roads especially if its a bend and there's danger of going off lane...getting trapped in longkangs! Road signs were blocked by trees...and i have to high beam so many times so that i can see the signs. What made singapore roads easy is the signage..u noe where u are heading way ahead.

But outing with k2p was great and fun...at 1am in the morning..we were playing in the pool..shivering in the cold with a toad to accompany us. They watched movie afterwards but i was shagged after my rally.

The next day..early morning after subuh, me and Chip Hakim went out for a walk in search of nasi lemak but to no avail. We found 7-11 though! We had BBQ and karaoke..they played in the pool again..this time with foam. Some played Age of Empire at the laptop..especially Hakim who played the game and talked to himself while we are all sleeping. We ate and shopped at Jusco..at 7.30pm, we left after a sumptuous meal by Lat's family....

An adventure...a great experience. Syukur Alhamdulillah....

Thanks Lat for the great hospitality!

4 more days to go..9 more days to gold...
