Dhals and the Mintod from the Ghetto...

Strange day today especially at the last lect of the day from 6pm to 8pm....

Dry subject reminiscent of the sandy Gobi... Public finance talking about public goods..much like those sands.. free, non-exludable non-rivalrous. MC? Cannot take MC so MC=0...

We resorted to eating BeeBee like cats.. Pouring the stunted orangey hard noodles on our chairbound mini-tables.. the orange powder litter specking our notes. Salmah reminded me of a hamster when she ate the BeeBee..so fast! Nibbly nibblu and all was gone...i hadn't even finished a third of mine!! She went on for a second round..and then a third and so on till all of us complained of aching jaws and me.. blistered tongues...

Diach had a strange tudung day...she hooded up. Kecik said she looked like the Minah Tudung from the Ghetto! AHAH!! I got an idea... nice cool word eh? Mintod from the Ghetto....

So many ideas dropped into by head today... Learnt a few terms from Science of Music class today.... Certain electronic engineering stuffs appeared cool too... Haha..

Well...back to my story!

So we prayed for a break... as we waited.. i doodled... ideas stemmed again..this time from the funny topic of economics.. Haha.. Lindahl theory... Hmmm..kacang dhals... Hungryyy...

POOOM!

She announced for a break.. but as usual, not before she went on for another 2 more slides! We headed for a juice-break, but alas, the stall was closed in the wake of boring shmoring monday... So we zoomed towards the fridge next stall... funny names stuck on each bottle.. Herbalish sort of drinks they sold.. What attracted me was the name..."MARUS ALBA".. Jessica's sister kootttt?

Den...back to our lecture...

Now..here i am. Blogging. Weird.

Ol' Buddies...

Mobilised on Saturday and it was the longest one ever man! We got released at near 9pm... Knew it was supposed to be on Saturday based on anonymous tips yet i still went to work since i knew it was going to be somewhat after lunch as i am sure they'd wait for people to complete at least half a day of work. So when i told Siow Lin that i had been activated, she was asking me to go later!! Hahaha..like my father's army like that! Hahaha..

I need to report within 2 hours as i am one of the KAH. So when i was activated at 2pm, i could afford to go to the library a few metres away from work to return library books, take a 10min ride in a bus back home and have lunch before i went out of the house at 3.15pm. The bus took sometime to come but i managed to reach the camp at 3.45pm.. Cpt daniel was there as usual..

But the best thing was... My Buddy Tim's Battalion is in the same brigade as mine so he was there!! So long nvr see him... Lionel Kong, Hulk, Chia Meng and Zul were there too... aaahhh.. so many friends! Even my guitar club friend Kelvin was there.. he is apparently from Tim's Battalion. Ahhh...friends...

Tutorials are starting soon... and damn...

Its all for today...

Should i go watch Santana?

Greater respect to a man i already honour...

I think he is a genius in his own rights....

The song you hear in the background right now (if it has loaded and played and you didn't switch off the sound!) is by Frank Zappa..

I was watching his interviews on YouTube in my free time along with the autobiography of him.. A classic rebel who couldn't find a place to FIT IN in society and had to create a niche for himself out of scratch.

He fought against the elder Bush back then in his music and also interviews.. (pity he's not here now! I was imagining the songs he'd make if he's still alive!!) He had songs about his views on society.. Vivid, Uncensored, Colourful...Three words i would use to describe his music. He was also in the heat of action when they wanted to introduce censorship of music contents in the US.

Anyway...

This is the video that i think touched abit of my senses most... it gives you an idea who he is too.. this is recorded near his demise i think .. when he started growing a full beard.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDYzuwG-gOE

Side-tracking; Science of Music is doing good especially since Kamie is enjoying it IT seems... She hasn't been late so far and thats good cos she aimed for puntuality this year. Hehehe.... Goooood gal...

There is this part about sound that was touched upon in the module that i truly believe... Sound or Music is more of perception rather than reality. Sounds are happening all around you yet you 'choose' to hear what to hear. Ada faham? At this point of time...somebody is writing on a piece of paper two tables away from me and his hand is rubbing lazily on the paper as he writes... if i didnt notice him, i might not be able to hear that sound unless it's too loud that it distracts. Human hearing spans vastly between 20Hz to 20kHz. Yet only sounds in certain ranges attract ur attention... this may be due to ..YES.. nurture and maybe even evolution. Sociology should be able to contribute to this (explanation). In some ways... sounds can trigger an emotional state of mind...

Composers who are skilled in their art use this knowledge to sculpt music that has potential to relay their intent. Musicians, with their skill, try to interpret the message and recreate the message as best to what the composer demands... Which is why, many musicians can play but not many can influence people's mood with their playing.

Have you encountered hearing songs that made you tear, or songs that uplift you...there are also songs that make you reach deep down into your emotional black-box and unearth skeletons of the past. I did...

And to think that music is simply sound that is skillfully created, mixed and organised. It's just air!! Such is the power of God's creation.

Zappa was a sound artist... one that uses sound to create art. One who does not stick to conventional methods and not one commercially driven. He was not really one that clamours for fame and till now, not many know him. As said by his son, Dweezil when accepting an award on his behalf, "to the 'hundreds' of fans of my father out there.."
Dweezil wasn't blind to the fact that his father's music was greatly unappreciated back and an now too. Hence, with whatever he had, the Zappas went out all the way to tour exposing the new age to his dad's music in the form of Zappa Plays Zappa... He admitted it took a long time for him to learn and retrace his dad's method of music and style of playing. Transcribing his dad's taped music reveals 'technology' that was experimented which was way beyond Zappa's time back then...

An ode to him. OK ok...done. Shall go back to reading up on my EG1108... ahahaha... towards my own dreams too. Im still proud and happy with myself that in this final sem, i stuck proud and hard to my pride and principle of only taking modules that i WANT and would be necessary for my goals in future...not for the grades... nice one arh zola. *pats

Wait...this just proves me that guys just keep on looking better as we age.. YESSSAH!!!

Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993) was an American composer, musician and a film director. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Zappa established himself as a prolific and highly distinctive composer, electric guitar player and band leader. He worked in almost every musical genre and wrote music for bands, ensembles, synthesizers and symphony orchestra, as well as musique concrète works constructed from pre-recorded, synthesized or sampled sources. In addition to his music recordings, he created feature-length and short films, music videos and album covers.

Aging Successfully

Sent Faz off.. Got a job.. Got tuition.. Got modules i want to do..

Well...it's 2008. Quite late for a resolution entry. Well? I don't have one anyway! Hahaha... Just maybe..i want to get my CAP of 3.21 and get a job once i expire from university that pays well..has prospects that will allow me to be paid even better..allows for free time to pursue my othersocietal pursuits as well as a healthy family, love and social life.

This sem.. Finally after 3sems of waiting due to clashes...i got my science of music! And i am also doing electrical engineering... hehehe..once again, my pursuits have proven me not to be of a breed suitable for arts-based modules! Hahaha... i still needed to do 3 econs modules to graduate with a B.A. in Economics though. I nearly could not have graduated as planned...

All these 5 sems..i thought i calculated well and told myself i needed to do just 2 modules of econs in the final sem to complete 14 modules. Then, out of a sudden queerness...i began to fill up the modular chart i did 2 semester ago to plan out the modules i was to take in NUS right up till graduation. To my horror... I didnt count properly enough! I needed to do 3 econs modules instead of 2!! It totally disrupted my plan for a colourful last semester taking engineering , science or medicine-based modules...Oh how i wonder how much i could have enjoyed.

Nevertheless...since i found that out after the first rounds of bidding...i was in desperation as the vacancy for econs modules would have been filled up by the 2nd round of bidding. Furthermore, the lack of vacancy will drive the bid-points sky high! I was not willing to drop my science of music slot so i narrowed my choices to Financial Econs, Mathematical Econs (CRAZY CHOICE!!) and Modern Economy of China. Shittt... this workload was not what i wanted...

So after 3 days of thinking and patiently waiting for the bidding rounds to reopen... i decided to do Modern Economy of China! Hahaha...maybe that would not be a really wise choice...cos? Im dat darn weak in essays.... maybe that's one point i will work on this sem. No point telling myself that im weak in essay when i could just work on it. Hahaha...

OK ok....

Enjoying toast with my girl now... yum yum...
